27TH STREET DRAINAGE REPAIRS
CLIENT: MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

Tice Engineering was hired to design improvements to the drainage system along the west side of 27th Street between Forrest Avenue and Lee Avenue. Design requirements included replacing the existing concrete ditch which required excessive maintenance, realignment of the drainage ditch in areas which were experiencing bank scouring, removal of riprap from the ditch alignment to improve overall maintenance of the area and evaluation of the drainage system to reduce flooding.

The resulting design included a wider, flat-bottom concrete ditch from Forrest Avenue to Jackson Avenue and a transition from flat-bottom to v-ditch from Jackson Avenue to Lee Avenue. The new concrete ditch is designed to promote positive drainage, reduce flooding and improve maintenance. The design also realigned the ditch south of Jackson Avenue to reduce bank scour and included repairs to the existing drainage pipes at Lee Avenue.

SCOPE OF WORK INCLUDED:
Replacing the existing concrete ditch
Realignment of the drainage ditch
Removal of riprap from the ditch alignment to improve overall maintenance
Evaluation of the drainage system to reduce flooding
